Promises

How annoying is it when someone promises something and then they don't pull through. Or even when someone says they'll do something and then they don't. I guess depending on the significance of the thing promised makes for either annoyance or dissappointment... or even disillusionment. One of the passages in the Bible that my eyes have been most recently uncovered to is 2 Corinthians 1:12-24 with my favorite verse being verse 20:

"For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory." (esv)

The passage talks about how sometimes as humans (Paul is specifically using himself as an example) we say we will do something and then for whatever reason we either choose not to or simply cannot pull through with it. But with God it is never that way! Every time we ask God if he will do what he said he would, the answer will always be "Yes!!!" because of Jesus Christ. And THAT'S why we say "in Jesus name, Amen" at the end of our prayers. Because we believe that God will pull through with what he promised he would for his glory.

I've been searching recently for which parts of the Bible I should begin memorizing and I have landed on the promises of God. Paul points out in several places the special nature of faith, hope, and love. God's promises display and inspire all three of these things. They display his love for us and inspire us to love him back, they give us hope for the future and build our faith.

I think there is probably a promise of God for every kind of trouble we run across. I don't know for sure yet but Lord willing, I'll keep you updated. ;)
