Optic Betrayal and Flashes of Light

Have your eyes ever double crossed you? Mine have. It's funny because your eyes for the most part are only going to tell the truth about what's going on inside. I know mine do anyway. It's so hard for me to hide it, that if I don't want someone to know then I have to make a pretty big effort to avoid eye contact altogether.
There are some moments however where it happens too quickly and there's nothing I can do about it. This is when I've been a victim of what I call optic betrayal. I fell victim to this phenomenon just yesterday. There was this person who was simply being who they are... unfortunately who they are greatly annoys me. Yesterday it was pretty bad. I couldn't take it anymore but I can't say anything because this person is innocently being who they are. It was for a split second that we made eye contact in the context of a group conversation that I knew my eyes had said too much and all I could think was... oops.
And THEN there are moments when your eyes betray you in the opposite sense. We won't get into that.
There is another phenomenon regarding the eyes that I happen to love though. I love to see people's eyes twinkle. There are some people who innately have that in their eyes and some people who don't. There is some scientific explanation for it too, something like when you are excited about something, your eyes dilate, and they therefore reflect more light. Something like that. I don't know. But I love to see people's eyes light up when they talk about things. It's so telling... both what their eyes light up about and how many things their eyes light up over. The more things people are excited about to that extent in life, the more I want to hang around them. It's that type of genuine almost child-like joy in things that makes me feel very content and happy when I'm with a person. I can go through most of my friends and think about at least one thing that their eyes light up over. And for some friends I can think of several things their eyes light up over. There are people too who just have the constant warm glow that makes you feel so taken care of.
Yep, there is a lot to see in people's eyes. Pretty ironic, dontchya think?
